Astrology of September 2021

(Click on the image for a full-page calendar).

September offers us quite a few gifts, especially in the first half of the month. With the Sun and Mars both going through Virgo until Sept. 14 (when Mars moves into Libra), we have a lot of practical earth energy available to us. The Sun and Mars will be making positive connections with Uranus and Pluto, both also in Earth signs. There is a Grand Trine in Earth Signs active in the skies until Sept. 16 – how lovely – we’re gifted with the energy of vitality and practical sense.

Matters related to health, the body, establishing productive routines, organizing/decluttering, farming and agriculture are all favoured. There is no better time to introduce a healthy change into your lifestyle (we’re talking physical OR mental health).

The Air energy is also strong throughout September: Venus and Mercury are both in Libra between Sept. 1-10, harmonizing with Jupiter in Aquarius.  Mars will move into Libra on Sept. 14, followed by the Sun on Sept. 22. Build your networks and collaboration with others, especially if it’s online.

Venus will enter Scorpio on September 11, but Mercury….Mercury will stay in Libra for quite a while longer because it will be turning retrograde on Sept. 26… ☹

Retrograde Energies Intensify:

We’re heading into the thick of this year’s retrograde season, with 5 planets out of 7 retrograde as of Aug. 19.  While it’s an excellent time to regroup and realign your course for the coming months, with so many planets retrograde it may become more difficult for new undertakings to be off to a good start. And, Mercury will be turning retrograde too, on Sept. 26.

Sept. 26 to Oct. 18 is a particularly dicey time for new beginnings, so if you’re planning to start something new (a new project, an important launch, a big contract and so on), do it before Sept. 23 or after Oct. 21. I like to give it 2-3 days on each side of Mercury Retrograde, for better chances of success.

The good news is, many of the planets will start turning direct in October. The worst of the retrograde season will only last for about 3 weeks this year: Sept. 26 to October 18.

For those of you planning to propose or get married (or make a big financial investment), a heads up that Venus will be turning retrograde on Dec. 19.  A romantic Christmas Day or New Year’s Eve proposal is not a good idea this year!  Wait until Venus turns direct on Jan. 29 2022.  Venus Retrograde is not the best time for proposals, marriages, or important financial decisions – you might end up changing your mind later, or your marriage/financial deal can be off to a rough start. It can still succeed in the end, but why push through obstacles if you don’t have to.

An Auspicious New Moon in Virgo: Sept. 6 2021 5:52 p.m. PDT

Oh my goodness! What a fantastic New Moon this is. There are so many positive planetary connections on the day of this New Moon. It’s manifestation power is pretty much 10 out of 10!

This would be an excellent day to ask the Universe for vitality and improved health. Mars trines Pluto on Sept. 6, boosting resilience and the ability to recover, physically or emotionally. The Sun trines Uranus – if you’re dealing with a particularly stubborn problem that you just don’t know how to deal with, ask for a creative solution.

And, last but not least, Venus (love, money) trines lucky Jupiter. Ask for romantic and financial success.

I'm so excited to announce my new, live virtual workshop "Manifest with the New Moon"!  There are several dates to choose from prior to Sept. 6, so you can be fully prepared for this truly auspicious New Moon. I hope to see you there.

And an Auspicious Full Moon in Pisces!: Sept. 20 2021, 4:55 p.m. PDT

Another super auspicious date! This Full Moon boosts creativity and spiritual work, since it’s conjunct Neptune. Celebrate your progress on the spiritual path – baby steps or leaps, doesn’t matter. Acknowledge your successes.

This Full Moon is also supported by Pluto, giving us extra determination to let go of what doesn’t serve us. What is no longer working for you? What would you like to change? Set your intentions. And then take an action step in that direction. And know that the Universe will be working on your behalf behind the scenes, too – now that you’ve made your wishes and intentions known.

Mercury: Communication, Legal Contracts, Vehicles, Electronics and E-Commerce

If you’ve been waiting to sign some legal contracts, buy a vehicle or an electronic device, launch your blog or your e-commerce site, or book some travel (where still possible) – do so before Sept. 21. Sept. 21 to Oct. 1 are a particularly bad period for Mercury-related activities. Not only will Mercury be repositioning to go retrograde, but it will also form a nasty square with Pluto which, due to the retrograde, will be felt from Sept. 21 to Oct. 1.

Mercury in Libra is well positioned through the first 3 weeks of September.  While in Libra, it boosts our ability for negotiation and enlisting others’ help with collaborative projects.  Mercury will stay in Libra for nearly 10 weeks – until Nov. 5.

Important dates for Mercury-related pursuits:

Sept. 4: Mercury trines Saturn. An excellent day to work on any type of communication that requires structure (research papers, presentations and such). This energy also invites us to look for a mentor, someone whose experience can help you professionally, or in life overall.

Sept. 7/8: Mercury opposes Chiron. Old wounds can come to the surface. Journaling will help with healing.

Sept. 20: Mercury opposes Jupiter. Powers of persuasion are increased. An excellent day to pitch your proposal, or to sign an important contract. Just remember that this is also the day of the Full Moon, so emotions might run big.

Sept.22: Mercury squares Pluto. Power struggles are possible. People might be pushing their own agenda. Because Mercury is about to go retrograde, this square will be repeated on Oct. 1.

Sept. 26: Mercury goes retrograde.

Do all the usual Mercury Retrograde prep on or around Sept. 23:

  • Back up important files.
  • Between Sept. 24-28 in particular, make sure to read the fine print if signing any legal documents.  Or wait for a week if you can.
  • Give yourself plenty of time to get to appointments.
  • Be prepared for possible miscommunication.
  • Proofread all important documents and email (including the distribution list!)
  • Mercury Retrograde is great for all things "re": reflect, redo, replan, repair, rewrite or edit.

Venus: Love, Money and Personal Values

Venus is not well positioned this month. Sept. 6 is the best day of the month for luck in love or money.

The rest of September is not the greatest, except for the last two days of the month. Venus starts the month in her own sign, Libra, where her powers are strengthened.  But, it quickly gets into trouble with Pluto on Sept. 5, making it an intense day in the romance department.  If your first date falls onto Sept. 5, your romance could be a steamy, passionate affair, but unless you’re an intensity addict, it might become too much drama in the end.

And speaking about passion – Venus moves into intense Scorpio on Sept. 10. Unfortunately, while there, it forms stressful connections with Saturn, Jupiter and Uranus in turn.  If you need to make an important financial decision, schedule cosmetic surgery, buy or sell art/jewelry, or go on an important first date, there are some dates, listed below, that you might want to sit out.

Key Dates:

Sept. 5: Venus squares Pluto. Romantic matters can get super intense. Hot and steamy connections are possible – as are breakdowns, breakups, and breakthroughs.  Not a good day for cosmetic surgery.

Sept. 6: Venus trines Jupiter. A great day for love or money!

Sept. 16/17: Venus squares Saturn. Blocks in relationships or finances are possible. Unfavourable for big purchases or investments that you’d like to appreciate over time. Relationships started on these dates can turn into “too much work” in the end. Not a good day for cosmetic surgery.

Sept. 23: Venus opposes Uranus. Do you need to make some changes in your love life or finances?

Sept. 29: Venus trines Neptune. Mercury is now retrograde, too; financial decisions are tricky today. It’s difficult to see things clearly. But, romance can feel like moonlight and roses today! Orchestrate a sweet evening with your love interest or partner.

Later the same day, the Sun trines Saturn, inviting commitment and responsibility into our lives. If you’re thinking of proposing, Sept. 29 has some very good energies. The only fly in the ointment is Mercury that is freshly retrograde. Write out what you want to say in advance 😊

Sept. 30: Venus squares Jupiter. Keep an eye out for romantic or financial opportunities – just be aware that some of them might look better than they actually are.

Career Matters:

Here is my take on the Virgo Season for the career-minded, including some key dates.

Daily Calendar (all dates for Pacific Time):

Sept. 2: Mars opposite Neptune. Low energy day.

Sept. 4: Mercury trines Saturn. An excellent day to work on any type of communication that requires structure (research papers, presentations and such). This energy also invites us to look for a mentor, someone whose experience can help you professionally, or in life overall.

For the spiritually inclined, sage your place or perform your favourite energy cleanse. Sept. 4 is a Saturday (day of Saturn) on the waning Moon – the best day of the month to release unwanted energies.

Sept. 5: Venus squares Pluto. Romantic matters can get super intense. Hot and steamy connections are possible – as are breakdowns, breakups, and breakthroughs.

Sept. 6: New Moon in Virgo! The energies are stellar. Set intentions for developing healthy habits and routines, increased organization abilities, and increased problem-solving.

Sept. 7/8: Mercury opposes Chiron. Old wounds can come to the surface. Journaling will help with healing.

Sept. 9, 2:00 p.m. to 9:48 p.m. PDT – an opportunity period! Good for starting new projects, working with groups, networking, hosting a webinar, and promotions.

Sept. 10: Venus enters Scorpio. We look for deep connection in romantic matters. For those in a happy and long marriage – this is a good energy to spice things up with your spouse 😉

Sept. 11 4:13 p.m. to 10:33 p.m. PDT – an opportunity period! An excellent time to start something that will need stamina and determination, and that you’re afraid you might not see through to the end. The staying power of your project will be boosted 😊

Sept. 14: Sun opposes Neptune. Great for artists, spiritualists, and charity work. For everyone else, Sept. 13-14 could bring low energy.  Be super careful with drugs and alcohol. Don’t over-indulge. This opposition can bring an adverse reaction.

Sept. 16: Sun trines Pluto. Embrace your personal power. Don’t shy away from it.  If your birthday is Sept. 15-17, it will be one of the major themes of your year.

Sept. 16-17 are not the best dates for financial or love matters though.  Venus squares Saturn.

Sept. 20: Full Moon in Pisces. Celebrate your successes – baby steps OR leaps! And then set your intentions to release what no longer serves you.

Sept. 22- Oct. 2: an extended Mercury-Pluto square, since Mercury is stationing to go retrograde on Sept. 26. Power struggles or power games are possible. Pay attention to hidden agendas (including your own!)

Sept. 22:  Sun enters Libra. Happy birthday season to my Libra readers!

Sept. 23: Venus opposes Uranus. Unexpected financial or romantic developments are possible on Sept. 22-23.

Sept. 25: Mars trines Saturn. You can make great strides on projects already in progress.

Sept. 26: Mercury turns retrograde…

Sept 29: Venus trines Neptune. Ahhh the energy of romance! Orchestrate a sweet evening with your love interest or partner.

Later on Sept. 29,  Sun trines Saturn, inviting commitment and responsibility into our lives.
